Mini Marathon -vs- 3.5 miles walk….hmmm which sounds better!

October 5, 2013

I’m trying to be sleepy enough to “get to bed early” to be ready for the Inaugural Rock ‘N Roll Mini Marathon.  There’s a half marathon going on and the mini marathon is actually a 3.5 mile run or walk…as long as you finish in an hour.  I normally don’t care for the big crowd events too much just because of the mass confusion and crowd, but this one’s really sort of special because I can do it with both my sisters, who do many of these events together.  Not that I can’t participate with them in the other events…but, well, in a way, I guess I can’t.  My knees and weight have prevented me from advancing at the rates they have in their physical abilities so, well I can’t go as far or as long or as often…  So I’ve taken to mostly riding my bike and a weekly 3.2 mile walk around Hinckley Lake (which is hilly).  Well, unfortunately for them, both my sisters are injured…they’re in varying stages of recovery, but their injured status sort of means we can walk this thing together and , even though I fear they’ll still “out do me”, just knowing we can actually participate in this one together is really nice.

Anyway,  as I’m sitting here trying to be tired enough to go to bed, I was amusing myself realizing how much better the mini marathon sounds compared to the 3.5 mile walk!  But, then again, I should be impressed with EITHER of those titles as a few years back I wouldn’t have even believed I could or should do something like that!

I’m glad I’ve tried so many of these new and fun things.  But I’m not sure what, if anything, I excel at over something else.  But I’m thinking maybe I could just lighten up on myself a little and not need to necessarily excel at anything…!  Why oh why can’t I just “do” something?!  Well, now that I’ve written it down, maybe I can!  I’ll give it a try in a few hours here!

OK, so we finished the 3.5 mile mini marathon and it was a blast!  The rains stopped as if it was a gift from up above; my friends Julie and Ken went with me for the whole event (we rode in the car together, walked down to the start, which we figure was at least an additional half mile onto the event!) and then my sisters joined me and we had a really nice walk.  We weren’t the last and we all just did really well!
